How We Size and Quote a New System

The most expensive mistake in this trade is guessing at capacity from square footage. An oversized air conditioner cools fast, shuts off early and never runs long enough to pull humidity out of the air, which is why an oversized system can leave a house cold and clammy at the same time.

Our estimates start with a load calculation for the actual house: its size, layout, insulation, windows and orientation. We look at the ductwork and returns, since replacing equipment without addressing an airflow problem carries the problem into the new system. Then you get written options, usually three, with the price, the efficiency rating and the trade-offs of each spelled out. The estimate itself is free and there is no obligation attached to it.

What Installation Day Looks Like

• Protection and prep. Floors and pathways get covered before anything is carried in or out.
• Removal of the old system. We disconnect, drain and haul away the old equipment. You do not have to arrange disposal.
• Installation. New equipment set, connected, and any duct or line-set corrections identified in the estimate carried out.
• Permits and inspection. Where the municipality requires them, we handle the paperwork.
• Start-up and testing. Refrigerant charge, airflow and temperature split are measured and adjusted, not eyeballed.
• Cleanup and walkthrough. The work area is left clean, and a technician walks you through the thermostat, the filter schedule and what the system should sound like.

Most straightforward residential changeouts are done in a single day. Jobs involving ductwork changes, a switch to a heat pump or multi-zone mini-split runs can take longer, and we tell you which one yours is at the estimate rather than on the morning of the install.
